11+ for Slough children: the Consortium test and the Bucks test

Slough children can sit two different 11+ tests. The Slough Consortium test is shared by the four Slough grammar schools; a standardised score of 111 makes a child eligible, and Quest Assessments sets the test from September 2027. The Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test covers Buckinghamshire's grammar schools, with a qualifying score of 121. Slough primaries aren't entered for the Bucks test automatically, so families register for whichever tests they choose, and each needs its own registration.

Slough families apply for secondary places through Slough Borough Council's common application form by 31 October. Our Slough 11+ guide and Bucks 11+ guide explain each test, and our 11+ tuition page sets them side by side. For a school just 0.3 miles from our centre, see the Burnham Grammar School 11+ guide.

Applying for secondary school from Slough

Whichever tests your child sits, the application itself goes through Slough Borough Council's common application form, which closes on 31 October of Year 6. You can name Slough grammar schools, Buckinghamshire grammar schools and non-selective schools on the same form, in your order of preference. Test results arrive in October, before the deadline, so you'll know where your child stands when you rank your choices.

We'd always suggest including at least one school your child is very likely to be offered, and reading each school's admissions policy, since priority areas and other criteria vary from school to school. The council's own guidance is the place to check the details for your year.

Slough's grammar schools

Slough's four grammar schools are Herschel Grammar (about 2.3 miles from us in a straight line), Langley Grammar, St Bernard's Catholic Grammar and Upton Court Grammar. Herschel is the closest of the four to our centre, and Langley Grammar the furthest. All four are selective, mixed and have sixth forms, and they share one entrance test, explained in our Slough 11+ guide. We're independent of every school on this page, and places follow each school's own admissions policy.

GCSE tuition for Slough students

For Years 10 and 11, our GCSE tuition covers maths, English and the sciences. Families searching for a maths tutor for Slough students can read about GCSE maths tuition, with Foundation and Higher tier support and plenty of exam practice. We also teach GCSE English and GCSE science. Each student begins with a diagnostic, so lessons go straight to the topics that will make the biggest difference. Students at schools on the Burnham side of Slough, such as Beechwood School or The Westgate School, are only a few minutes from us; we mention those schools as neighbours, not as schools we work with.

A-Level tuition and TMUA/ESAT

Sixth-formers can get help with A-Level maths, further maths, the sciences, economics, psychology and sociology through our A-Level tuition. Students applying for competitive maths, economics, computer science, engineering or science courses can prepare for the TMUA and ESAT admissions tests, which some leading universities use alongside A-Level predictions.

KS3 and 1-to-1 lessons

In Years 7 to 9, KS3 tuition catches gaps before GCSE courses begin. Year 7 is a natural starting point for children who've just moved up, whether to a grammar school or not, and Year 9 is a good moment to check foundations before GCSE options are chosen. At every level, lessons can be 1-to-1, and online sessions are available for families who'd rather not travel every week.

Is the trip worth it?

Plenty of Slough families have good options closer to home, and we'd encourage you to compare. What we offer is a clear method: a diagnostic first, a written plan within 48 hours, weekly lessons and regular updates for parents, with no minimum contract. For many families from Slough, a 10-minute drive once a week is easy to fit in, and online sessions cover the weeks when it isn't.

Closer to Cippenham, Britwell or Haymill?

If you live on the western side of Slough borough, you're even closer: between 1.2 and 2.3 road miles. Our page on tuition for Cippenham, Britwell and Haymill families has routes and local detail.

Supporting Slough families

  • Honest distance. About 10 minutes from the town centre; less from the western side of the borough.
  • Both 11+ tests. Help choosing between the Slough and Bucks tests, or preparing for both.
  • Every level. 11+ through to A-Level and university admissions tests.
  • Online lessons. Learn from home, on the same plan.
